Swinside Stone Circle

Swinside Stone Circle

This is my third visit to the stone circle at Swinside and it never fails to impress. Although the stones are on private land belonging to the nearby Swinside Farm, there is a gate giving access to the stones. The stones form an almost perfect circle with a diameter of about 90 feet and contains over 50 stones, but it's purpose remains a mystery. It is thought to be of Bronze age origin, over 3,500 years old and consequently pre-dates the druids by many hundreds of years.
