I decided to go to Blackpool today and do a spot of windsurfing but it was a bit of a mistake really as I ended up in the foyer of the Metropole Hotel!
But seriously, I did go to Blackpool to photograph the highest tide of the year. I had an open invitation from the police...they told people to stay away but then announced the time that it would be high tide, so I couldn't really stay away. When I got there, hundreds of other people were there with cameras, and the police, coastguards and members of Blackpool council were out in force. At one point the police closed the promenade to traffic and the waves were 30-40ft high, an AWESOME sight! I managed to sneak a bit closer when nobody was looking and got some 'close-ups'. I was a bit too close actually as the sea water poured over the railings and I could see that my feet were going to get wet so I ran but unfortunately a big wave came from nowhere and before I could say 'Blackpool Promenade' the back of my jeans were wet through lol....good job I had a spare pair in the car to where I made a hasty retreat! Exciting stuff!
I believe the tide was 10 metres but the winds were not as strong as expected being only 41 m.p.h.
